Change Your Diet, Improve Your Skin

“What do you eat” not only applies to our health, nutrition and body shape, but also how our skin looks and feels as well. Nowadays, it is easy to find that most people are concerning about their skin looking, even the males. A good and healthy skin look not only provides them a attractive and confidence outlook, but which also is the first impression given to others. Therefore, I might say it is not surprising that there are millions of skin barrier products in the market. If you have dry skin, you know that lotions and moisturizers can help. But how about the dietary choices combat dry, itchy and scaly skin? External skin products might help, but most important is to improve our health. “Where your health stage is, what you have eaten” If you want healthy skin, all you have is to get eating a healthy diet. What you put into your body has a huge effect on the health and skin quality.

“While there’s no mistaking how our diet affects our overall health, we’re just beginning to understand how certain foods – or lack thereof – can impact our skin’s health,” said Dr. Taylor. “In addition, studies show that some food and beverages can even worsen common skin conditions and cause allergic reactions that manifest on the skin.”

When you get a well-balanced diet, your body is able to get enough nutrients for good skin health and for the body to function well as a whole. However, in today’s society it is hard to find a well-balanced diet. The diets nowadays are lack of vitamins, minerals, and other essential components for healthy skin and bodies. Therefore, changes in diet or the increased intake of certain foods may help improving the skin health, or even minimize certain skin problem or skin diseases.

Perhaps the simplest way to maintain a healthy, balanced diet and ensure the skin is getting optimal nutrition from food we eat is to follow the basic rule of eating for healthy skin is based on choosing and eating at least three ounces of whole grains, having wide variety of fresh fruits/veggies, consuming calcium-rich foods, opting for a variety of healthy fats, and lean proteins. Also, drinking at least 7-8 glasses of pure water every day is essential so the skin stays hydrated should help most people improve the appearance of the skin. Avoid high processed foods, especially white flour, sugar and trans fats. What if you can do more is to buy organic foods in order to avoid putting more toxins in your body.

“The foods recommended by the USDA as part of a healthy diet contain valuable vitamins and minerals that have proven health benefits for our bodies,” said Dr. Taylor. “Research has shown that the antioxidants in vitamins C and E can protect the skin from sun damage and help reduce damage in skin cells caused by harmful free radicals, which contribute to aging skin. Similarly, we have long known that the B vitamin biotin is responsible for forming the basis of skin, hair and nail cells, and vitamin A – found in many fruits and vegetables – maintains and repairs skin tissue. Without an adequate supply of these vitamins, you may notice it in the appearance of your skin, hair and nails.”

According to some physicians, the most important part of skin barrier is lipids, including phospholipids, free fatty acids, cholesterol and ceramides. Skin without enough fat in it has a protein predominance and water is easily escape through a barrier without lipids, and allowing skin become dehydrated. Foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids are necessary for the production of intercellular lipids, and they have an anti-inflammatory effect on irritated skin.

If you are already eating a balanced diet with sufficient nutrients, adding more or taking supplements is not necessary. The thing you should do is to keep having your well-balanced diet. If you are not on the track if eating a balanced diet, but still want to have a good skin appearance, what you can do is to change your diet step-by-step. You do not have to change all the things at once, just try to change 1-2 things of your diet for every time. And you might find that there is a big improvement in your body and skin.
